Welcome to the Firelands Conference History Website

The Firelands Conference has a great history with several team and individual state champions.  This website is an attempt to capture and preserve this history.  I hope you enjoy browsing through the site.  If you see any errors or can provide additional information, drop me a line at the contact button above.  Special thanks go to Jim Van Sickle and Don Hohler, both long-time observers of, and writers for, the Firelands Conference. This site is a work in progress. Follow the status at the "Status" button below.

  • 4/21/19 - The OHSAA cancels all Spring sports
  • 5/7/20 - The NCAA cancels all Spring sports
  • 7/23/20 - Major league baseball season begins with no fans allowed.  A 60 game season will be played
  • 7/30/20 - NBA season resumes in a bubble at the ESPN World of Sports in Walt Disney World.  All players and staff are quartentined
  • 8/5/20 - High school golf starts play as scheduled
  • 8/7/20 - The OHSAA announced the scheduling criteria for football.  The season will begin with 6 regular season games and then all teams enter the playoffs.  Once a team is eliminated from the playoffs, they can play four more regular season games if completed by 11/14/20
  • 8/11/20 - The Big 10 and Pac 12 cancel Fall sports, including football.  The SEC, Big 12, and ACC have not
  • 9/16/20 - The Big 10 reverses course and announced football will begin 10/24/20 but several games are cancelled throughout the season due to players catching the virus
  • 8/21/20 - Volleyball starts play as scheduled
  • 8/24/20 - Cross country begins but large tournaments are cancelled because cross country is deemed to be a contact sport
  • 8/28/20 - High school football starts play as scheduled
  • December 2020 - A second COVID spike has caused some teams/conferences to pause winter sports, including Western Reserve.  A vaccine will be available for the first time at the end of December.
  • September 2021 - 53.3% of all Americans are fully-vaccinated and 48.9% of Ohioans are fully-vaccinated.  Some businesses are requiring a vaccination as a condition of employment.
  • 9/8/21 - The Delta COVID variant is running rampant.  Some schools have gone back to remote learning.  It was announced South Central had to cancel its game against St. Paul because of COVID.
  • 12/18/21 - The Omicron variant is now spreading.  It is more transmissable than Delta but the symptoms aren't as bad.  Some professional sports games are being rescheduled.  The Browns game for 12/18/21 was moved to 12/20/21 because half of the starting lineup tested positive for COVID.
